Border City Wrestling Ends Working Arrangement With IWR
It is with great sadness that BCW announces that it will be ending it's working arrangement with the Independent Wrestling Revolution (IWR) of Michigan. BCW had agreed to try to help the IWR gain some interest within the wrestling community. However, the actions of the IWR have forced BCW to reconsider continuing a working relationship that would have served to help only the IWR.
IWR is one of numerous struggling indy promotions that has asked for BCW's help over the past many years. BCW takes serious it's
position as one of the very top independent promotions in the wrestling business and tries to help out other lesser promotions when it can. When approached by IWR promoters Josh Movado and Bubba McKenzie, BCW reluctantly agreed to take part in a deal that would have allowed IWR to gain some notice from the rest of the wrestling world.
As most of you know, in wrestling, things are often done to add intrigue to the events and 'spice up the product'. These are often referred to as 'angles' or storylines. IWR had asked BCW to take part in an Invasion angle similar to the one that WWE used when they had WCW invade WWE. It was IWR's hope that working with a well-respected company like BCW, might allow them to finally be seen as a legitimate company, and not a backyard style promotion.
From the very beginning, it appeared that IWR was only looking to double cross BCW. IWR had asked that BCW's Scott D'Amore appear at their January 24th event and lead a BCW invasion. Once at the show, Josh Movado outlined what he wanted Scott and BCW to do on the event. Mr. Movado's plans called for Scott to interrupt the show and insult the IWR, it's wrestlers, and it's fans. His outline also called for Scott to use vulgar and inappropriate language. BCW and Scott asked if the wording could be changed, to keep with BCW's family friendly motto, and were repeatedly assured by Mr. Movado and others involved that the IWR's fans would be fine with the foul language, and that was the kind of language that the IWR uses on their shows on a regular basis. Scott and other BCW performers Chris Sabin and Conrad Kennedy III (CK3) begrudgingly agreed to the wording only after being assured by Mr. Movado that it was necessary to use that kind of language in an IWR event. In hindsight, BCW should have keep to it's original belief that that kind of language is never fitting for a wrestling show that allows children.
IWR fans were outraged at the use of foul language in front of an all ages crowd. IWR officials came out right away and apologized for the use of the inappropriate language and promised their fans that BCW and Scott were not invited to the show and that in no way did the IWR condone the use of such language.
Scott and the rest of the BCW staff were shocked and blindsided by this announcement from IWR officials and felt betrayed by the
IWR for trying to implied that BCW had used the foul language without the IWR's prior knowledge that they were going to do so. IWR has refused to return BCW's emails and phone messages since the night of the January 24th event.
BCW continues it's commitment to providing top quality family entertainment for affordable prices, and is saddened by what turned out to be an example of yet another small indy promotion that wanted to take shortcuts in order to try to quickly reach the status that it took BCW 10 long years to achieve. BCW will
continue to seek working relationships with other quality promotions and feels confident that small fly by night promotions will continue to fizzle out and disappear, while BCW continues to grow and flourish as one of the premier independent wrestling promotions in North America.
