Venom Retains, Curry Comes Close and Much More as NECW's MARCH BADNESS Tours Kicks Off in Plainfield, CT
NECW returned to the Plainfield Town Hall last night in front of a near capacity crowd to kick off the MARCH BADNESS TOUR 2005. Barber Construction, Inc and J & R Promotions sponsored the event.
The night got underway with Afterburn (Ray Diamond & P.C. Carmichael) teaming with “El Boriqua “Danny Diaz getting an impressive victory over D-Unit (Doug Summers & Rocco Abruzzi) and the masked man known as The Saint when Diaz caught The Saint with a powerslam.
In women’s action, Mercedes Martinez defeated Violet Flame, who came out with her toy belt, once again claiming to be the “Uncrowned NECW Women’s Champion.” Mercedes got the pin over Violet using her feet on the ropes after Violet Flame tried to use the same tactic unsuccessfully.
In a special challenge match, Pat Masters defeated Grayson Alexander in an unusual in-ring turn for the announcer. Masters caught Alexander with the facebuster to score the pinfall.
Michael Sain defeated “Miracle” Mike Bennett with the Psycho driver. Sain just demolished Bennett, but to the Miracle’s credit, he never backed up and gave Sain a great fight. Bennett says he’s not through with Sain yet.
Aaron Morrison returned to NECW action taking on “Sweet” Scott Ashworth. Ashworth has quickly developed into a big fan favorite in NECW. “The Egomaniac” Johnny Idol, who has had issues with Ashworth lately came out to ringside. Morrison managed to squeak by the “Sweet One” with the help of interference by Idol.
In what has to be considered a huge upset, “The Pinnacle” Paul Lombardi defeated two-time NECW Champion, “Brutal” Bob Evans. It appeared that Evans was another victim of Lombardi’s allegedly loaded elbow. Evans was incensed and said that he’s not through with Lombardi by a longshot.
In a match for the NECW Television Championship, “Rocket” Fred Curry, Jr. defeated Ru Starr by disqualification. “The Rocket” took the fight to Ru Starr but “The Egomaniac” Johnny Idol was again at ringside. This time the referee called for the disqualification on Starr, who saved his title thanks to Idol. Curry has asked for a rematch and he’ll get it this Saturday night in Framingham.
In tag team action, RAVE (Kristian Frost and Zack Statick) scored an impressive win over Execution (Bonebreaker and Skullkrusher) in a hard fought battle.
In the main event, NECW Heavyweight Champion, “Revolution” Chris Venom defeated “The Egomaniac” Johnny Idol with the top rope elbow. Ru Starr was at ringside for Idol this time, but it didn’t last long, as Fred Curry came out and ran Starr off. After Venom scored the victory, Ru Starr and Paul Lombardi both ran in to attack Venom after the bell. “Sweet” Scott Ashworth, Fred Curry and “Brutal” Bob Evans came out and a brawl ensued. Ashworth and Curry challenged Johnny Idol and Ru Starr to a tag match on next week’s NECW TV.
NECW will be announcing a return date to Plainfield later this week.
