I mean seriously. Did he really think people were gonna buy what he said about "I only use this bat for show." BULLSHIT. I just know that it will be found out that he's used this bat his whole career.
Maybe I should be saying Fuck SportsCenter for wanting to waste 45 of the 60 minutes of their show for this. I mean Why would people want to have what Sosa did shoved down their throats for almost the whole show? I mean sure, SportsCenter has sucked dick for the last two years but GIMME A BREAK. People get tired of seeing 45 minutes of sports writers saying the same damn thing. It gets very boring. Come on ESPN, there's The Stanley Cup Finals going on and The NBA Finals coming up today(Spurs in 6!). Auctually, why I have started complaining now? They've done this with every so called big story.

Yes, he's been using a corked bat his entire career, he just happens to be lucky enough that every time his bat has broken in the past, he picked up an uncorked bat that at bat. He actually probably did it on purpose, just to throw sleuths like you off his path.
It was a moronic thing to have the corked bat, and to use it, but these idiots who are saying all 505 homers are null and void are some of the mind-numbingly dumbest people I've ever encountered.

Regardless of how we all feel, this incident unfortunately questions Sammy Sosa's record, whether we like it or not. I personally couldn't care either way, but I can see both points of view. Did Sosa fuck up? Yes. Does that mean his whole legacy should be thrown out the window. No. Does it bring doubt to his records? Yes, but it is not enough to warrant a revocation of everything he's accomplished. Only Sammy himself knows the truth. It's up to Major League Baseball to decide what to do next, and I personally don't think things look good for Sosa right now. MLB will probably try to destroy the man, or at the least question everything he's done. As far as Sosa's career, maybe it'll recover, or just maybe you could stick a cork in him; he's done. Only time will tell. And there ain't a damn thing we as fans can do about it.

I have to agree with AM here. Considering how many bats are broken these days, it'd definitely have been found out by now. And they checked his other bats and they were not corked.
A column on AOL did note, though, that Sosa's rate of hitting homeruns has gone down since some point late into last season.

I think we must all remember an old adage:
"It's only cheating if you get caught."
What'd you think I was gonna say? "Cheaters never prosper"? Tell that to the world in general. They'll laugh at you for being naive.

"If your not cheating, your not trying!"Besides, I've been hearing according to physics, a corked bat wouldn't benefit a home run hitter, as the gain in bat velocity wouldn't be enough to counter the loss of mass... or something. It would probably help a singles hitter like Pete Rose (who people say corked his bat) out much more than it would Sammy Sosa. Heck, I've heard a corked bat would HURT a power hitter. ESPN has to sensationalize every little thing. Without ESPN making a big deal out of everything we wouldn't care about John Rocker's gay and NY bashing, or Annika playing golf <gasp!> on the men's tour, heaven forbid!

According to some reports Corked bats can make a ball go 20 feet farther. So I guess it's based on where you read from.

According to the book The Physics of Baseball, corking has a negative effect on home run hitters.

Yeah, I've read a lot lately talking about how the faster swing does not help because you lose weight on the bat and that there is no sort of rubber effect since the impact time is too short.
